The Brock VCN Lab along with Dr. Benjamin Balas (North Dakota State University, ND, USA) are currently conducting a research study examining the relationship between chess playing abilities and mental imagery. This study takes approximately 30 minutes, during which you will answer questions about mental imagery, questions about chess, as well as perform simple games to measure imagery and working memory. We will also ask you information about you that will allow us to identify your chess playing ability (Elo).
If you complete the study, you can be entered in a prize to receive an Amazon.com gift card equivalent to $50 USD (one gift card will be given out for every 25 people who complete the study).
To participate, you must be 18+ years of age, have some chess playing experience, and be able to read and understand the English instructions. Knowing your Elo or having a chess.com or lichess.org account would also be useful. You also need to complete this task on a device with a keyboard and monitor (e.g., a laptop or desktop computer).
This study has been reviewed and received ethics clearance through the Research Ethics Board at Brock University (REB #26-017).
